Signal 98 in Taunton – 4501 Onondaga Blvd Westhill High School    dispatch

09/09/09 – With units clearing a medical run in the Tadem Heights area, another call came in at 1936 hours reporting a possible electrical fire in the basement of Westhill High School.  Chief Sauer arrived to find staff outside reporting a heavy black smoke condition inside the basement and asked for the balance of the assignment.  Engine 6, Ladder 5, Rescue 3 along with Chiefs Rudiger and Spraker responded on the alarm to find a transformer fire in the basement with a heavy smoke condition inside the school.  Units cleared an hour later.

04/24/09 – Shortly after 0400 hours, Ladder 5 was dispatched on a well involved house fire in the Westvale section of Geddes.  The 6 man crew arrived to find a single family dwelling going throughout with all occupants accounted for.  Due to heavy fire conditions Solvay command advised units this will be a defensive operation and requested a second alarm brining Rescue 3 into the scene.  Both crews operated for several hours before returning to service.

 

 

Signal 98 in Fairmount – 5201 West Genesee Street    dispatch

04/22/09 – The Ladder with 5 Volunteers ran a mid morning fire at West Genesee High School in Fairmount.  Ladder 5 arrived just behind the Fairmount Engine which was stretching a line on a small fire inside a bathroom.  The Ladder crew performed ventilation for just under one hour before returning to service.

04/02/09 – At 0800 hours, both Engine 6 and Rescue 3 went to the Town of Onondaga Training Center spending a few hours going over vehicle extrication techniques.  The 7 Firefighters were instructed by Lieutenants Steven Pflugh and Eric Amidon using a variety of different methods and tools to remove trapped occupants from motor vehicle collisions.  Just after a late lunch around 1530 hours, the Engine ran back to back EMS calls in Fairmount.  However, while responding from one call to another, Fairmount Rescue 2 was involved in a personal injury auto accident at Hinsdale Rd and Milton Ave involving a school bus.  With Engine 6 handling the original EMS call, Rescue 3 quickly responded along with Fairmount Car 2 and Rescue 1 to the accident scene.  A total of 6 people were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries including 3 Fairmount Firefighters.

Busy Day for the Western Section and Taunton Engine 94    dispatch

03/26/09 – Since 2003, Engine 94 has provided a great service not only to area Volunteer Fire Departments but more importantly the Community as well.  Monday through Friday from the hours of 0600-1800 each of the 5 western section departments take a day out of the week and provide a staffed engine company to supplement manpower which is often short during normal business and work hours.  This past Thursday which has always been our day for 94, the 5 firefighters from Taunton ran a total of 6 alarms in various areas including an in district motor vehicle accident on Onondaga Road. Having both the Engine and Rescue staffed, the 10 Taunton Firefighters arrived in minutes and handled the situation in a timely manner.

 

Signal 99 in Nedrow – 192 Elton Ave    dispatch

03/19/09 – Just after enjoying a nice lunch prepared by our resident Chef Michael Wilbur, the Ladder ran a reported bedroom fire in Nedrow.  The crew of 4 arrived just behind Nedrow Engine 2 assuming the first due Engine role making quick work of the fire and opening up.  Crews remained on scene for just over an hour performing salvage and overhaul.

 

 

Signal 80 in Taunton – 5084 Harris Road    dispatch

03/07/09 – At 0320 hours, Rescue Engine 3 and Engine 6 were dispatched on a Personal Injury Auto Accident.  Crews arrived to find one vehicle that rolled over several times with a young male lying on the ground.  Crews treated the patient and checked for any hazards returning to service a short time later.

02/23/09 – At 0537 hours, 4 Firefighters on Engine 6 responded on a 2nd Alarm fire in Lakeside.  Upon arrival the Engine staged for a short time before moving into the scene to provided overhaul and assist Lakeside and Baldwinsville units with clean up.  Engine 6 cleared just over 2 hours later.

 

Signal 99 in Fairmount – 319 Crestwood Drive    dispatch

02/14/09 – At 2259 hours, just as crews were picking up from the Building Collapse, Ladder 5 and Car 3 were dispatched on a reported well-involved house fire in Fairmount.  First in Chiefs reported heavy fire from the 1-story dwelling also unknown status of the occupants.  Fairmount Engine 4 arrived a short time later followed by Solvay Rescue 11, Fairmount Truck 1, Howlett Hill Engine 6, and Taunton Ladder 5.  Onondaga Hill handled RIT operations.  Due to the heavy fire conditions in the attic, crews made a defensive attack for a few minutes knocking down the bulk of the fire from the outside.  There was also a report from the scene of a possible missing firefighter, which later turned out to be an honest mistake.  No injuries on the scene and units cleared a short time later.  Solvay Engine 21 and Lakeside Rescue 5 also responded on the 2nd alarm and Taunton Rescue 3 and Warners Engine 1 re-located to Fairmount’s station.

 

Special Service Call in Taunton – 4857 Woodbriar Drive    dispatch

02/14/09 – Shortly after 1800 hours, firefighters were dispatched on a reported building collapse with a strong natural gas odor in the Sherwood Farms Section of Taunton.  Rescue Engine 3, Engine 6 and Ladder 5 responded along with the 3 Chiefs to find a large section of the garage floor that caved in bringing the 2 vehicles (one which was occupied) down with it.  Crews arrived quickly and checked for any injuries, hazards and also any major structural damage.  Crews operated on scene for approx 6 hours assisting the Tow Truck operators in stabilizing and removing the vehicle from the garage.

02/08/09 – Just before 1300 hours, Ladder 5 along with Car 1 and 3 responded on a report of smoke from a dwelling in the Westvale section of Geddes.  The Ladder arrived a short time later assuming the first due Engine responsibilities making entry into the home and quick work of the one room fire.  Crews assisted Solvay Fire with overhaul and Chief Sauer assisted County fire investigators with their investigation.

 

 

Signal 98 in Taunton – 3997 Onondaga Blvd    dispatch

02/07/09 – Shortly before 10 am, Car 1 and 3 along with the Ladder, Rescue and Squad ran a reported house fire with other mutual aid units.  Squad 2 first arriving had smoke visible from the back porch of the home.  The crew made quick work of the porch fire using an extinguisher and water can.  Crews were on scene for approx 1 hour opening up and checking for extension into the home.  Crews cleared a short time later.

 

Signal 98 in Onondaga Hill – 4915 Broad Road    dispatch

01/29/09 – At 0432 hours, Ladder 5 was dispatched on a reported house fire in Onondaga Hill.  Ladder 5 responded with 6 men along with the Chief.  First arriving units reported an active kitchen fire with extension into the second floor.  The Ladder crew assisted units with opening up walls checking for extension along with ventilation and overhaul duties.  Crew returned to service a short time later.

01/06/09 – At 1754 hours, a burning odor inside a residence in the Autumn Ridge section of Onondaga sending Ladder 5, Rescue Engine 3 and Spare Engine 6 to the scene.  The Ladder crew first arriving found a burning odor inside the home and upon further investigation found a problem with the main circuit breaker.  All units cleared a short time later.
