The Second Lieutenant of the Fairmount Fire Department dies in a Truck Accident. It is with great sadness and regret that Fairmount Fire Department Chief Larry Gilbert Jr. announced the sudden and unexpected death of Second Lieutenant James "Jay" Spraker, age 26. Lieutenant Spraker was involved in a truck accident while driving for McLane on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred in Groves City, Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead a short time after. Lieutenant Spraker is survived by his wife Michelle Rossi, two month old daughter Ava Rose, his parents Roger and Dolores Spraker, and brother Kevin. Lieutenant Spraker was currently an assistant training officer for the Fairmount Fire Department. He joined the Fairmount Fire Department on August 1, 1999. Lieutenant Spraker comes from a long line of firefighters. His father, Roger, has been a member of Fairmount since 1974. His uncle, John Schults, is a past Chief and life member of the department. Jay’s brother, Kevin, is an officer with the Taunton Fire Department. "Our deepest regrets go out to Jay’s wife, daughter and his family. He was a dedicated father and son. We have not only lost an outstanding Fire Line Officer, I and many other members of this department have lost a close personal friend. Lieutenant Spraker has performed a great service to his fellow officers, firefighters, citizens of the Town of Camillus, and Onondaga County. He will be greatly missed by the entire firefighting community."
